Hagerty Consulting, Inc., a comprehensive Homeland Security and Emergency Management firm that helps public and private sector clients prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, seeks an exceptional professional to serve as its Communications Coordinator.

This Communications Coordinator position is a newly created, mid-level, position for Hagerty Consulting. The selected candidate will be fully responsible for leading communications and performing marketing and public relations initiatives for the firm. The position will be based in Hagerty Consulting’s headquarters, in Evanston, Illinois. The candidate should be flexible to limited travel that may be required intermittently each year within the United States and its territories.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for content development of Hagerty’s marketing and communications initiatives to include: managing the firm’s social media presence, updating website content, developing and revising company biographies, developing new project citations for recently completed projects, and composing high impact press releases in a timely manner. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will work directly with the firm’s subject matter experts to compose market-specific collateral pieces and white papers.

The Communications Coordinator will work with, and report to, the Director of Development to increase the visibility of the firm in select markets and to proactively enhance the Hagerty brand. The Communications Coordinator will collaborate with the firm’s graphic designer and work closely with Hagerty’s Senior Management Team.

The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge and/or experience with the following:
 Capacity to develop and draft the firm’s social media content, press releases, company bios, website content, and some corporate newsletter content.
 Strong written and communications skills with attention to details.
 Ability to work with a variety of media outlets to distribute timely company updates and information externally, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials through various social media interfaces, print, television, radio, etc.
 Experience with actively implementing a public relations/communication strategy that reflects the firm’s vision.

Desired Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and three plus (3+) years’ experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, or journalism.

 Outstanding written communication: Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for accuracy, spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; able to read and interpret written information; and, deliver technically sound press releases, company white-papers, website, and social media content, etc.

 Outstanding oral communication: Listens to direction and obtains clarification; respond accurately and timely to questions; effectively presents information to managers, clients, media, and the general public.

The multi-billion dollar New York City recovery effort requires consultants to:

• Collect, analyze, organize, and summarize financial data.
• Provide management and analytical support to recovery efforts.
• Perform extensive reviews of financial documentation including, but not limited to, payroll records, invoices, purchase orders, requisitions, proofs of payment, withdrawals, contracts, etc.
• Develop methodologies to accurately account for eligible disaster-related costs and streamline delivery of disaster funds and services.
• Prepare federal grants, cost estimates, audits and other products that support disaster response and recovery efforts.
• Ensure compliance with standard accounting and procurement principles as well as with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Supervise work of clerical staff.
• Perform other work as required.

The consultant must be comfortable interacting directly with public officials and senior managers.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master’s Degree, preferably in Accounting, Public Policy, Economics, Business, or Finance, or related field, and 1-4+ years’ experience in consulting or public sector.

Job Description

The Public Assistance Consultant will provide support to the FEMA PA program following a declared disaster. Specific tasks may include:

• Serve as FEMA’s liaison to public and non-profit stakeholders, responsible for explaining to applicants the regulations, policies, and procedures that govern the Public Assistance program.
• Collect, analyze, and summarize financial data and other documentation submitted by applicants.
• Evaluate the eligibility of costs incurred as a result of a disaster for FEMA reimbursement, as defined in the Robert T. Stafford Act and 44 CFR.
• As part of our disaster cadre supporting the PA program, you may be asked to deploy anywhere in the country, often with a week’s notice or less, and stay for 90 days or more.
• Consultants will be reimbursed for travel costs and will receive a per diem for food and lodging.

Qualifications

The candidate will participate in or lead project initiatives for federal, state and/or local clients related to emergency management and homeland security. Work may include, but is not limited to: capabilities assessments, gap analyses, emergency operations and/or contingency plans, review and improvement of plans, documents, manuals, policies, procedures, training, and exercise.

• Working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Command System (ICS), the National Response Framework (NRF), Threat Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (THIRA), and other federal preparedness guidance documents and policies
